Online sales = only X% of retail (new data)

Is it too late to get into the Amazon game? At some point, there will be too many sellers and the market will be saturated. No more room for growth. Right?

Maybe in 2092.

Guess what percent of retail sales are online vs. in-store.

Seriously, guess.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, it’s only 13.2%.

Just 13.2%! This blew my freakin’ mind.

That means Amazon sales and all other website sales only captured 13.2% of the pie. We still have nearly 87% of the market to tap into. And that’s just the U.S.

Back in 2014-15, people would just throw up simple products like yoga mats and make hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars. Anyone who started selling on Amazon became an instant millionaire.

That was almost ten years ago, and obviously a lot has changed. You can no longer just throw up a simple product with bad photos and a basic advertising campaign and expect to get thousands of sales.

There are a lot more steps involved because there’s a lot more money and a lot more competition. You need to have a proven plan, a strategy, and improving skills to make sure this actually works out.

So, yes, selling on Amazon is harder than ever. But getting ahead of 99% of the competition is pretty straightforward. Follow the Bedrock Method: Nail every detail of product research, supplier selection, and listing optimization before you launch.

Most people are super lazy and won’t be as careful and thoughtful as you are.

There is a lot of work in selling on Amazon FBA. It’s a real business… but it’s mostly front-loaded. Honestly, my best products kind of run themselves. As you keep working, your equity keeps growing. It’s a business, but it’s also an investment.

This is a long play for me. If I put products on Amazon right now and get a stranglehold on that corner of the market, what are my sales going to look like in 10 or 20 years when e-commerce accounts for 50% of the pie?

I think we can all agree, online shopping is the future—still.

The best time to start with Amazon FBA is right now.
