Be A Contrarian In An Amazon Seller World

You might have experienced this. You’re using software to search for product ideas using the same criteria that everyone else is using. That makes it very hard to find products that aren’t what everyone else is doing!

Instead, consider being a contrarian. Think outside the box. Go “against the grain” of what EVERYBODY else is doing.

By this I mean, you’re ignoring ALL my criteria that you know others are looking for, and looking for the opposites of what I told you. Feel a tinge of cringe inside. That’s OK.

Now, I don’t mean to go find $100k+/month products with massive competition…

It always has to make sense for sales, reviews, margins, and competition. The numbers have to work.

You know how I tell you not to do breakable products like glass and you know every other Amazon seller is being told not to sell breakable products…

So you take a contrarian approach and ask yourself HOW you could do breakable products successfully.

Go left instead of right…and steer away from your competition.”

Here are some things you might do in that example:

  • You tell your manufacturer to add on padded packaging with extra bubble wrap.
  • Then, you get heavy-duty master cartons.
  • Get an inspection that includes a drop test to test for travel wear and tear to make sure your product can withstand the shipping.

Bingo! You sell a glass product without the negatives! And without massive competition.

Just by doing this extra work, you go over a barrier of entry that deters THE MAJORITY OF OTHER SELLERS from competing with you.

Anytime you take the extra time and do the hard stuff, this gives you a competitive advantage… because people are lazy! HUMAN NATURE 101 BABY!

Other examples of this:

  • High-price items that require more start-up capital
  • Heavy items that are oversized and require sea shipping
  • Seasonal items (More work & risk comes from inventory management, but if you master that, this is a wide-open niche.)

Be creative with this too, there are tons of different avenues you can explore…
