Amazon FBA March 2024 Updates

Here is my list of Amazon FBA-related news and discussions for March 2024. 

Amazon Humanoid “Digit” to Replace Workers?

Videos recently surfaced of one of Amazon’s Jetsons-like warehouse workers. Scary, huh?

According to this CNBC video, Amazon recently pumped over a billion dollars into “new industrial technologies” that can perform the jobs of warehouse workers…aka robots.  

Does this mean Amazon’s planning on replacing its human workforce?

Probably. Which sucks, but hear me out. 

Amazon didn’t become one of the most profitable companies in history without leading the charge on innovation.  And while robotic workers look post-apocalyptic, folks have been losing jobs to automation since the Industrial Revolution. This isn’t exactly news. 

I’m biased, but I see this as a win-win when my business depends on Amazon’s innovation to reach more customers as quickly as possible. 

Does China’s Canton Fair Offer New E-Commerce Opportunities? 

China’s Canton Fair is one of the planet’s largest trade and expo shows. It’s scheduled to run from Monday, Apr 15th to Sun, May 5th this year. 

Entrepreneurs from all walks of life flock to the fair to find investment opportunities, network, and source up-and-coming products. 

Here’s why it might be worth the trip:

First, China didn’t get the nickname “the world’s factory” for nothing. And despite a recent drop in worldwide exports, they continue to be a leader in the manufacturing and production of cutting-edge products and consumables. 

That said, there are tens of thousands of booths and vendors, with a massive range of inventory; many of which have just come out of research and development, meaning there’s tons of untapped market potential. It’s like a Wal-Mart and Amazon pre-show. 

And here’s an interesting tidbit. 

It’s almost uncanny how every friend and colleague had the same reaction after attending the fair. 

“I’ll never think Amazon’s too saturated ever again”

Second, you’re more likely to land a better deal with an in-person negotiation than you would be exchanging messages on Alibaba. 

But Camron, do you expect me to fly to China?

No. I’ve never actually attended (but maybe I should). But I make it a ritual to watch YouTube vlogs, coverage, and recaps of the event to get inspiration for product ideas and new business investments. 

Be on The Lookout for Spring Sale and Prime Day Events

In 2023, Amazon held its first Spring Sale, which ran from March 27th to 29th. There hasn’t been an official announcement for 2024 dates, but I’ve read several articles speculating there’ll be one soon. 

Additionally, Amazon held two Prime Day events last year, one in the summer, and another one in the fall. The events brought in record sales for Amazon, and individual sellers saw massive increases in sales volume. They’re all amazing opportunities to push inventory and increase profits. 

But here’s the catch; Amazon keeps the dates under wrap until a few weeks before the events. This isn’t ideal for sellers, as the short preparation window makes it hard to promote and prepare inventory. 

So for Amazon sellers who wish to take advantage of the event (which is just a marketing tactic by Amazon to increase traffic for a few days), I’d be on the lookout for announcements. 

But will they fall around the same dates as last year?

Probably, but there’s no way to tell for sure, I’m checking my Seller Central account every day to watch for updates. 

Content Creation Trends for 2024

As a lover of science fiction and all things post-apocalyptic, I can’t help but recall a few books that are hitting bizarrely close to home these days. 

Ben Elton’s dystopian novel “Blind Faith,” comes to mind. It focuses on a future world so integrated with technology that society deems anyone who’s NOT constantly live-streaming their lives as being untrustworthy and shady. 

So when I hear that TikTok’s shop’s algorithm is pushing accounts that frequently go live, I can’t help but draw a connection. 

But considering the fact you can link your Amazon account directly to TikTokShop, there’s a good case for trying it out. 

Gary Vee puts it like this:

“TikTok [shop], the longer you’re on, the more they’re surfacing your live, especially non-followers…Then you get to chop up little pieces from it, and you run those as Tik Tok, and Instagram, and Facebook and YouTube Shorts ads to sell the stuff…You will be flabbergasted”

Here are some other trends for 2024:

  • High-Quality Value-Driven Content: When every business is vying for attention, your content can’t cut corners. Ask yourself, would I watch this? 
  • Educational content – the great thing about approaching content from an educational perspective is that it’ll always be valuable
  • Gamification – This involves adding game-like elements, such as challenges and rewards into content to increase engagement.
