This is my first newsletter from my new home in Nashville!
What do people from Tennessee say?
“Sexier than socks on a rooster.”
“Crookeder than a dog’s hind legs.”
“If something’s real country, we say it’s country-er than cornbread.”
The dialect may seem simple, but it’s actually quite sophisticated, as you can see here.
Thought that might give you a little chuckle to start the weekend. Before you know it, I’ll be saying, “Y’all” with the best of ‘em.
Anyways, here’s some of the stuff I’ve been working on, creating, and enjoying over the past week.
What I’m Up To In My Personal Life
Settling into my new home in Nashville. You know how you think, “This move will be easy. I hardly have anything.” Then you get there, and you realize how much work there is to do to put things back together. Like my sound tiles in my office so that the sound for my videos is the best it can be. Or ordering a new mattress.
Hey, this is also the first time I’ve been in a real home with a real yard, and not some minimalist apartment! That’s very exciting BUT there are cons to it as well. Such as filling all the empty space, which is a trap that I am not trying to fall for along with pitching my views to my girlfriend!
What I’m Watching
Really enjoyed watching The Terminal List about a Navy SEAL Commander out to investigate and revenge the mysteries behind the murder of his entire platoon. It’s a fantastic action series (which I love) with a lot of twists and turns, edge-of-your-seat excitement, and great escapist watching.
I also enjoyed the finale of the 4-season Netflix series Ozarks. It was exciting watching where you don’t know until the end what’s going to happen. Money laundering for a drug cartel isn’t exactly a great career move. Will they die or will they weasel out a deal to survive?
What I’m Reading
I’m excited about ordering a book on Amazon, Caffeine Blues: Wake Up to the Hidden Dangers of America’s #1 Drug. I have a lot of bad effects from caffeine. It’s just not good for me. I feel very anxious and cr***y when I use it. But I keep drinking that coffee anyway. I keep going back to it…even when I KNOW it will make me feel bad.
Stephen Cherniske MS is a nutritional biochemist, and in this book he describes all the science of caffeine. I’m a very logical person, so the more that I know about the science and logic about why caffeine’s bad for me, the better. I can use the science to motivate myself to let go of something that’s obviously not good for me.
Quote I’m Pondering
“If you don’t sacrifice for what you want, what you want becomes the sacrifice” Anonymous
I think about this quote a lot. Sometimes we have to sacrifice things like going out clubbing, watching stupid TV, or wasting time watching mindless YouTube videos. If we don’t sacrifice unimportant things, there’s no time to achieve the important goals you really want.
And here’s the key. You have to learn to distinguish when your activities are time-wasters and when they are needed relaxation. Here’s how I make that determination.
- If I’m finding myself in front of the TV or computer spending hours trying to find something worth watching, that’s a time-waster. Better to spend the time on my goals.
- If I’m burnt from overworking, is this thing that I’m doing something that refreshes me?
