My First Amazon Account Suspension–What I Learned

Today we’re gonna talk about dreaded Amazon suspensions, and what to do if this happens to you. Look, I’m from the Midwest and we’re thrifty there. So obviously I’m going to hate to spend money on attorneys. But, I want to tell you the story of my first account suspension and what I learned.

If you’re not familiar with Amazon suspensions, they’re notorious for being vague, unhelpful, and really hard to overcome in certain situations. First, I got an email with some vague language about a performance notification. Hey, I like to solve my own problems, so I got into gear.

Nothing I Did Worked To Lift The Suspension

When this happened to me, I kept responding in kinda a country boy sort of way. I kept trying to give them what they wanted. Here’s the thing, they wouldn’t tell me what they wanted! I tried this. Then I tried that. Then I tried another thing. NOTHING WORKED. Then after a couple months of trying, I was thinking, “We’re never gonna get our account back.”

I Lost Revenue

Meanwhile, the account is not bringing in the cash flow it had. This is serious! But I could never get a straight answer from Amazon. It was super frustrating, and I thought my Amazon career might be over.

There Are Resources Who Specialize In Account Suspensions

I started talking to the Amazon seller community, and I learned there are resources out there. There are people who specialize in helping sellers solve account suspensions.

Here Are Some Of The Things I Learned

Well, I learned these things the hard way, but here’s some of what I learned:

  • I learned that Amazon doesn’t like the responses of the common folk, yet, they want you to provide a plan of action.
  • They want lawyers, writing in lawyer speak before they will take you seriously.
  • I had no idea that that’s what they wanted, so of course I couldn’t respond correctly.
  • There are certain circumstances that you cannot overcome by yourself without legal help.  
  • It’s possible to get legal help from someone who specializes in account suspension issues.
  • That legal help doesn’t have to be prohibitively expensive.
  • If I had known that early on, it would have cost me so much less in lost revenue.

I Finally Solved The Problem

I Googled Amazon Seller lawyers. I identified three that sounded good and I got on the phone and had conversations with them. I hired the one I liked the most. I think it only ended up costing me $500, which was a great deal at the time. And he did all the work and written responses to amazon. It took more than two month but, whatever they sent, he’d send back a legal response.

Takeaway

What I’d like you to take away from this story is that there are resources who can help you. And that it probably will cost you less than what you’ll lose with a suspended Amazon account.
