Say “nope” to repeated advice about Amazon FBA

There are a lot of people talking about Amazon on YouTube, Facebook, blogs, and emails. And a lot of them are saying the same things.

That can work in your favor.

If you hear the same Amazon FBA advice in a lot of places, consider NOT taking it.

Most Amazon gurus will warn you away from certain products—especially seasonal products. (Or breakable products, or oversized products, etc.)

To me, that’s an opportunity. If a lot of people are told to stay away from a product, then there’s room for you to be the one selling it. It’s an opportunity to go where other people aren’t going because they’re too scared or they’re just putting themselves in a box.

Never take a blind risk, of course. But if you’ve found a product and done the research and seen the data, and you have reason to believe it will succeed—but it’s seasonal, big, breakable, or whatever—go for it.

One note: If you pick a seasonal product, don’t pick a season that’s coming up soon. It’s almost summer, so don’t pick an early summer product. It takes a few months to source, package, and ship. So pick something that’s popular in August. Or even prep for a Christmas product.

How do you know when a product is popular? If you’re using Helium 10 Blackbox (my favorite product research software), click “keywords” and then “advanced filters.” Then check out “Best Sales Period” and select the month you’re interested in.

Seasonal products have a downside, of course—they’ll only reach major sales levels once a year. BUT, that one period of time will be dynamite.

And maybe you can build them into a year-round brand. Say you find “inflatable Easter bunny” as a promising keyword. Maybe you can also manufacture an inflatable Uncle Sam, wearing red-white-and-blue shorts and flexing his muscles for Independence Day. (Can’t you picture that at a frat party?)

Pumpkins and zombies at Halloween, a turkey for Thanksgiving—you can build a brand of inflatable holiday decorations.

Be bold and try something no one else is trying. A hidden opportunity can have a big payoff.
