The Most Moving Experience Of My Life…

For the second week of Team Takeover (while I’m on my honeymoon), I want to introduce Chelsea! She’s the one who creates our lead magnets and helps with the Facebook group.

Here are a few resources she’s created and a few things she’s been enjoying outside Amazon FBA.

Phantom of the Opera

Here’s what I learned from one of the most moving experiences of my life in June 2022 in New York City.

I was in NYC for a work trip and decided to visit a childhood friend while there.

We had grown up together while she was living here in Jamaica, gone through high school orchestra together, and could often be caught singing the soundtrack to Phantom of the Opera at all kinds of odd times.

Yep, proudly waving the nerd flag over here!

In any case, I visited her and randomly proposed that we try to get Broadway tickets to see the show.

We started trying to book the tickets and it was a lot of back and forth and miscommunication:

  • At first, she wasn’t sure if she could come, so we were trying to figure out a date and time.
  • Then the ticket booking platform was glitching so we couldn’t really find seats.
  • And then we weren’t communicating very well so she booked 2 tickets aaaand…I also booked 2 tickets.

It was just one thing after another, tons of back-and-forth conversation, me feeling like I was taking her out of her way and making things harder for her.

After a while, I just wondered if I should cancel the whole thing and if it was just more trouble than it was worth.

Now keep in mind, I’d loved The Phantom of the Opera for DECADES.

But I was literally about to walk away from watching a live Broadway performance of this masterpiece, a dream of mine for years, literally a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

I was just going to give it up!

Thankfully, my friend pushed me to go.

And there are no words to describe how spectacular it was being in that audience, hearing the scores played live, the songs, the set…no words!

We tend to do that though right?

Our dreams get just a little bit inconvenient and all of a sudden, we’re backing out. We’re pulling back. We’re delaying doing the hard things again and again.

That’s exactly why we need people in our lives who won’t let us give up on the dreams and goals we have.

Thank God for those people!

The crazy thing is though, The Phantom of the Opera closed on Broadway this past April. So if I had backed out, who knows when I would’ve had the chance to see it again?

If you back out of YOUR dreams, who knows when you’ll have the chance to go after them again?

What I’m Re-Reading

A bit of fiction for you all.

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros…in anticipation of the sequel Iron Flame, coming out next Tuesday!

This novel has been taking the fantasy world by storm, and I’m not usually one who jumps on trends. I refused to read the Twilight series until 6 or 7 years after it came out (didn’t like it at all) and I still haven’t read the Harry Potter books (sacrilege, I know!) – but that’s how you know this is a legit recommendation!

The world-building is amazing, the characters aren’t caricatures, and it’s just all-around goodness! If you enjoy fiction, it’s worth the read.

What I’m Watching

Just ran into Lesson in Chemistry, a new Apple TV series starring Brie Larson. I didn’t love her as Captain Marvel, but her performance in this series is utterly engaging so far.

Also watched a pretty helpful video from productivity YouTuber, Ali Abdaal, on An Evidence-Based Guide to Overcoming Stress & Anxiety.

Quote That Resonated With Me

We’re living in some ridiculously crazy times. I saw this quote on Instagram and it hit me:

“I just told my wife “I’m sorry we have to raise children in these dystopian times.” She recalled a quote she read just today:

Never feel sorry for raising dragon slayers in a time when there are actual dragons.
