Amazon FBA April Updates

Here is my list of Amazon-FBA-related news for April 2024.

Shoppable A+ Content Comparison Charts

Amazon recently updated its A+ Content price comparison charts to include prices, review rating summaries, and an add-to-cart button.

The new features allow sellers to list multiple products on one chart, which is terrific for those with similar branded products.

Amazon’s Low Inventory Fee Gets a Grace Period

Amazon’s low-level inventory fee went into effect on April 1. And let’s just say it’s been met with some criticism.

According to Amazon:

“When sellers don’t carry enough inventory, we are unable to distribute products as effectively and efficiently across our network, which slows delivery speed to customers and increases shipping costs.”

For experienced sellers, it’s just another fee change to deal with. But other sellers complain it’s a bit of a catch-22 since Amazon already has a long-term storage fee. The fee structure makes it especially difficult for sellers that rely on seasonal product sales.

But the policy is getting a 30-day grace period. According to VP of Amazon Dharmesh Mehta’s LinkedIn Post:

Is it possible they’ll change the fee structure? Doubtful, but you never know.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the same federal agency that is suing Amazon for being a monopoly, is probing into the controversial fee.

TikTok Ban Update

The fate of the TikTok ban lies in the United States Senate. The House voted last month 352-65 on an outright ban on TikTok. If passed by the Senate, the president has said he will sign it into law.

The United States would join a shortlist of countries, notably India and Nepal, that have banned the app from the general public. However, countless countries have blocked the app from some government devices, including Canada, Australia, Sweden, Denmark, and New Zealand, just to name a few.

The timeline for the Senate hearing is unclear, but according to new sources, they’re in no hurry to review the legislation.

The proposed bill would allow TikTok’s parent company ByteDance 6 months to sell TikTok, so any impacts would not be immediate.

Last Year’s Highest and Lowest Converting E-Commerce Sectors

  • Beauty and skincare (3.3%)
  • General apparel (2.6%)

  • Home furniture (0.8%)
  • Luxury apparel (0.9%)
  • General handbags and luggage (1.2%)
